Guest Speaker David Whyte

“Making the Invitation – The Essence of Conversational Leadership”

One of the abiding dynamics of leadership, whether it is leading others in public or leading our personal lives with both private and public courage is the necessity for visibility: the willingness to step out from behind a clouded or confusing identity into the clear air of commitment and articulation. We commit to others and to a direction we wish to take most effectively through making three invitations, firstly by identifying the horizon to which we wish to go, then by articulating the ground on which we now stand and then by asking others to join us in the endeavor of getting from here to there.

This will be a time for looking at the milestones and adventures that occur along the way when we try to make a real invitation, to ourselves, to others and to the future to come together in one emboldening conversation.

David Whyte is a poet, author and international lecturer on creativity and adaptability in the workplace. For more than 20 years, he has been developing a body of work and a series of seminars focused on the conversational nature of leadership in today’s world. Mr. Whyte is the author of multiple books, including The Three Marriages: Reimagining Work, Self and Relationship and Crossing the Unknown Sea: Work as a Pilgrimage of Identity. He is an associate fellow at Said Business School at the University of Oxford. He also conducts poetry and walking tours in Western Ireland, Tuscany and the English Lake District, where so many of the world’s great poets lived and wrote.

“David Whyte just gave our firm the best presentation I have ever heard in a television and PR career of 23 years. The feedback has been phenomenal.” – Head of Corporate Affairs, Standard Chartered Wholesale Bank

This three-day experience will give you a whole new understanding of your clients, the impact you can have, and what it really means to be an EMyth Brand Coach. The presentations, Guest Speaker, and workshop sessions we’ve planned will introduce and train you in brand new skills you’ve never seen before. You’ll elevate your coaching work and your results with your clients. You’ll also learn powerful business-focused skills and tools to help you generate new leads and convert them into clients. Come away with new clarity and confidence in your capabilities as a coach and your ability to grow your practice and find clients you love to work with.

Making the Invitation: The Essence of Conversational Leadership

Renowned poet David Whyte writes about the intersection of our interior and exterior worlds, what he calls the conversational nature of reality, in a distinctly personal way. David will talk with us about how holding necessary and courageous conversations can be the core of leadership in every relationship. Nowhere is this more true than in a coach’s relationship with their clients. As Associate Fellow at Said Business School at the University of Oxford, David is one of the few recognized poets to take his perspective on reality and leadership into corporations throughout the world.Your guests are welcome to join us.

Why should I come? Can’t I learn the same things online?

We’ll be introducing and training new coaching skills that have not been taught before. You’ll get to work hands-on with EMyth Coaches and walk away with new ways to help your clients. You’ll also benefit from the enhanced learning that can only happen in a focused, full-immersion environment. And there’s no better way to connect and learn from your EMyth colleagues.

What if I can’t afford it?

Can you afford not to be here? Our new curriculum will include business-building trainings designed to grow your practice. One extra client will more than cover your costs to attend. And consider asking your accountant: all or part of your trip may qualify as a business expense for 2017.

Is my practice large enough?

All coaches are welcome at Summit, from those just starting out with a client or two to longtime pros with big practices. We all have something to learn from each other, and the training is appropriate for all levels. Bottom line: if you are an EMyth Coach, you belong at Summit!

Will Summit help me grow my practice?

Yes! This year, in addition to coaching skills training, we’ve included workshops specifically designed to help you connect with prospects and clients. Plus, you’ll get to ask our most successful EMyth Coaches what’s worked for them, and come away with a treasure trove of ideas to try.

Who’s going to be there?

At Summit this year, you’ll spend quality time with the entire EMyth Team, as well as with a fantastic group of your coach colleagues from far and wide. We’re planning to have enough people for you to make a lot of amazing new contacts, while keeping it intimate enough for you to really connect with all of us from EMyth and get all your questions answered.

Are families welcome?

Yes! You may bring your spouse or family. They can stay in your room at no extra charge, relax and enjoy our beautiful resort in the California desert while you are attending Summit activities. Family members are welcome at the Keynote with David Whyte, the reception, and at the Network dinner. We’ll send you a survey shortly after you purchase your ticket where you can let us know if you’re bringing any of your family.

What if I want to stay longer than 2 nights?

Just let us know the date you intend to arrive and the date you intend to leave. We’ll book your room for your full stay. Additional nights will be charged to your master bill at the rate of $214 per night (resort fee, and taxes included).

What is your refund policy?

In general, we don't refund Summit tickets. We put a lot of effort, consideration, and resources into creating a Summit based on the participants we expect and building an experience that reflects how much we care about all of you! Please reach out to us if there’s something preventing you from being able to fully commit.

Because we do recognize that life happens, in the event that you simply can’t make it, you can transfer your ticket to another EMyth Coach, or apply your payments toward a future Summit.

Why is this year’s ticket price so much higher than last year’s?

Because this year, we’re giving you so much more than a ticket. We’ve combined luxury accommodations and extras in with our Summit tickets to create a convenient all-in-one package that is a great deal! Here is what you receive:

  • Two nights accommodation (Monday and Tuesday) at the Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort and Spa
  • Participation in the full EMyth Summit agenda
  • The opportunity to listen to and learn from acclaimed poet and speaker, David Whyte
  • Light reception on Monday evening
  • Network Dinner on Tuesday evening
  • Breakfast, lunch, and coffee on Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Family members welcome at Monday’s opening reception, Tuesday’s network dinner, and the David Whyte Keynote.
